Current Series: The Songs of Lent
Over the season of Lent, we will explore the seven Penitential Psalms. Since at least the 7th century, these Psalms have been prayed by the Church during the Lenten season. These ancient songs are powerful because they take God seriously and desire an experience of his forgiveness.
The Penitential Psalms help us grapple with our sins, suffering, and the brokenness of our world. The prayers are meaningful for us because of their emotional depth and the desire to commune with God even when we are at the end of our rope. Most importantly, the Penitential Psalms open our eyes of faith so that we can know the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings, the grace of his forgiveness, and the renewal of his Spirit (Philippians 3:10).
